Message make sure it is sitting loose and undisturbed in any way. Check to make sure it doesn't have any pin holes and that the clamp that holds it to the radiator is air tight.

If you haven't already: you should delete/replace (with silicone hoses) the coolant lines under the intake plenum.

I once had a leak that was so slow I couldn't see any signs of it leaking except an occasional whisp of steam AFTER I turned the engine off.

If the replacement cap is also used already, it would be a good idea to get one that is OEM quality not the Autozone crappy sort of works replacement.
